Mass-market electric vehicles
Established technology can produce a fresh re-rating. An early technology can already be expensive.
WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING
IEA reports more than 20 million electric cars sold in 2025, 25% of new-car sales; its definition includes battery-electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in Q3 2026. This is a large commercial transition, separate from unproved autonomous-driving economics.

Where could value be captured?
Which manufacturers, component suppliers or charging services retain profit as vehicles become more affordable?
THE BEGINNING
What would open the window?
Require durable unit economics, funded demand and balance-sheet resilience at a price allowing for competition, incentives and slower growth.
THE END
What would end the move?
Review if pricing pressure, financing needs or poor utilisation undermine expected cash returns, even while EV adoption keeps growing.
What would support staying with the thesis?
Look for further independent evidence, delivered customer economics and price behaviour consistent with the original thesis.
What would invalidate it?
Regional adoption differs sharply. Higher unit sales can coexist with weaker manufacturer margins and dilution; autonomy is a separate thesis.
THE COUNTERCASE
Regional adoption differs sharply. Higher unit sales can coexist with weaker manufacturer margins and dilution; autonomy is a separate thesis.
What is still missing before an investment decision?
- A defined investable instrument or comparable cohort and exposure materiality
- A dated narrative change supported by independently attributed evidence
- A permitted price, liquidity and capital-flow observation for the same instrument
- Valuation scenarios showing what success is already assumed in the price
- A prospective horizon, continuation test and predeclared invalidation
- An independent investment-case review
